As the Mother River of the city and a hotbed of its development Suzhou creek is essential to Shanghai's identity. Our proposal manifests Suzhou creek as a backbone of the future Shanghai, being a major transportation artery, connecting city’s outskirts with Pudong and provided by fast and ecologically responsible means of water transport. To create additional value to this idea we propose new waterways that connect urban areas to the north and south of the creek. This would be a harmonizing counterweight to the recent developments in the Pudong area. Using the existing bridges as axis of development, arranging high-rise commercial areas along them. The program here includes mixed-use commercial and housing developments – with a vibrant atmosphere of clubs and restaurants.
